Club Picnic & Dryland Water Training 2023

It’s time for our Annual Picnic! Our Picnic will be held at Ritter Farm Park in Lakeville on Sunday June 11, 2023. What’s better than spending a beautiful summer day with fellow Portuguese Water Dog owners and their dogs visiting, learning and having some fun?? The Picnic is free for all members of PWDCTC. We will be providing a picnic lunch as well as water and soda to drink.

Dryland Water Training 

We will have Dryland Water Training to assist our Junior/Apprentice level teams or those interested in doing water training with their dogs with tips you can do even at home. There will be no boats and no lake, so we will work on dryland skills that will transfer to the water and preparing for our Water Practices coming up later this Summer. If you have specific water training items you would like help with please send them to Kristina Olson.

Scavenger Hunt

We will also have a Scavenger Hunt where you can work with your dog to locate hidden items around the park and win prizes!

Board Meeting

Towards the end of the picnic, you are welcome to stick around and attend our General Meeting where we will discuss what is happening with the club and updates on events for this year.

We also may have a few nosework hides for our experienced handlers to get a little practice in. Note: We will not be doing a workshop or clinic for nosework at the picnic.

Schedule: (approximate times) 

• 10am - 11am – arrive and setup
• 11am  - 12pm- picnic lunch
• 12pm - 2pm - Dryland Training/Scavenger Hunt
• 2pm - General meeting (members are welcome)
• 2:30pm -3pm- pack up/clean up

• 6’ leash
• Poop/waste bags
• Chair
• Hat & sunscreen

Dryland Training what to bring:

• Long line
• Harness
• Retrieving dummy/Splunky
• High value training treats

Please note: No Flexi Leads please. All dogs must remain on leash during the event.
